Tom, Katie, Ruth and Rhoda were interviewed by Tim Gallagher of Euronews, for a lifestyle piece focusing on our touring achievements and philosophy towards roads suitable for all, and their crucial role in childhood independence.


Around the world in one day with Mark Beaumont

Thomas Ivor rode 250 miles on Zwift in one day, and raised over £1,500 as part of round-the-world record-holder Mark Beaumont’s lockdown fundraiser for NHS charities together. He was awarded “Hero of the week” by BBC Radio Northampton during his interview with breakfast show host Annabel Amos, and was featured in national news reporting of the event.

He followed this up a couple of weeks later with a 1000 mile week on Zwift!


Little Big Shots, NBC

We flew to Hollywood in January to film with Emmy Award winner, Golden Globe and Oscar nominee Melissa McCarthy, for season four of NBC’s ‘Little Big Shots’

The girls opened the show for Episode 2, and subsequently appeared in Episode 10.

Ruth and Rhoda’s segment featured an interview, footage of them riding in the Californian desert, and this simulated ride across the United States! (May not play in some countries)

Ruth and Rhoda, Mummy and Daddy filmed a follow-up for Little Big Shots to show how they were carrying on their adventures during the Coronavirus lockdown, in April 2020.

Opinion columnist Lesley Riddoch interviewed Tom about the Family ByCycle’s experience of cycling along the A9 corridor between Perth and Inverness.

“You don’t need a Land Rover to drive the A9, so you shouldn’t need to be covered in mud on a mountain bike with knobbly tyres to use the National Cycle Network”.

The team travelled to Manchester to film ‘talking heads’ for a documentary narrated by actress Meera Syal, featuring road users’ footage. A really lovely edit told the story of our End-to-End ride as well as Rhoda’s lorry clip and Ruth and Mummy’s Cornish caravan nightmare. Our segment begins at 34:19


Night of Adventure
with Alastair Humphreys

Tom and Rhoda came down with a bug and at the last minute, Katie and Ruth had to deliver one of the toughest gigs - the Pecha Kucha format ‘Night of Adventure’ in London’s Westminster, for a crowd of 900 people. The evening raised over £21k for Hope and Homes for Children in support of #FamiliesNotOrphanages, and has introduced so many new people to the incredible work that is being done with children and their families around the world.

Tom participated in the press launch and first running of Operation Close Pass in Northamptonshire, something we’ve campaigned for, for years. He was interviewed by BBC Look East as part of their behind the scenes report.

In the midst of preparations for our big ride for the year, were delighted to be asked back to Scotland, a place we love, by Markus Stitz, the first man to ride around the world on a single-speed bike, to test-ride and record the Go East Lothian trail, a new bike packing route aimed at families, on the East Coast of Scotland.

Ruth and Rhoda’s record-breaking Land’s End - John o’Groats ride appeared in various media, local and national; we particularly enjoyed filming some extra material for the BBC’s children’s news programming. We particularly enjoy taking opportunities to place family cycling in the mainstream media, to reach people outside the cycling ‘bubble’.

Just hours after we arrived home from Caithness, a journey which began with an appearance on 5 Live’s breakfast show, we found ourselves in Cambridge for a BBC Radio Northampton interview and Look East live broadcast with presenter Janine Machin. Ruth was fascinated by the studio and was delighted when Janine invited her to sit in the ‘hot seat’ to present her own news!

We set off from Land’s End, trying to keep our heads down, and ended up on the TV before we reached Bristol - drawing on our previous viral video to once more highlight the importance of giving cyclists safe space on the road. Luckily, nobody guessed where we were headed for, yet…


Right This Minute

The girls were allowed to stay up late to take part in this fun interview with the Right This Minute team in Phoenix, Arizona, where we talked about going viral and how to deal with internet trolls. Another opportunity to put good roadcraft and family cycling in the mainstream, on another continent.

Going Viral

June 2018

There we were, minding our own business in the Scottish Borders, testing our mileage aspirations for the Land’s End to John o’Groats attempt. We tweeted a ‘thank you’ to a friendly lorry driver, Danny, and before we knew it, Rhoda’s thumb had gone around the world! We appeared on TV news media internationally and the video was viewed by millions.

BBC Look East’s Simon Deadman interviewed Rhoda and by the magic of FaceTime, introduced her to Danny the lorry driver, her unlikely co-star!

The moment Rhoda saw herself on national breakfast TV!

ITV Central news also featured Rhoda’s clip with an interview. Rhoda flicked the horns on live TV.

Rhoda’s exploits even had TVA Nouvelle in Quebec reporting on the safe passing distance for overtaking a cyclist, and the importance of good manners on the road!


National Autism Awareness Week
Thomas Ivor’s Triathlon

The NAS proposed that people might swim, cycle or run 7km in recognition of the 700,000 people with Autism in the UK. Thomas Ivor decided to do all three, as a triathlon! He subsequently took part in filming for the NAS to support a major fundraising bid.

Thomas Ivor (then 8 years old) was the inadvertent star turn at Dave Cornthwaite’s popular ‘Yes Tribe’ festival at Brinsbury campus in Sussex. So popular was his talk during the afternoon session, that he was invited to speak again on the main stage with the headline speakers that evening.
